John Key Can’t Rule Out SAS Against ISIS!

September 29, 2014

Aotearoa: A Wider Perspective

It would be his least preferred option (Why?) but he can’t rule out SAS. That basically means he will send SAS personnel but he won’t tell us. Just like Helen Clark 10 years ago.

——————————————————————–

Prime Minister John Key won’t rule out sending New Zealand’s elite SAS personnel to assist US efforts to counter Islamic State (Isis) militants in Iraq or even Syria but says that would be done reluctantly as a last resort, if at all.

Mr Key also confirmed New Zealand was assessing its security alert following recent reports of a terrorist plot in Australia and that he was seeking advice about New Zealanders fighting for groups like Isis who want to return home.

New Zealand has been named by the US State Department as one of more than 60 countries in the coalition supporting its efforts to counter Islamic State, according to a report in the Washington…

CBS News: Video: CBS Evening News With Walter Cronkite, 3/17/77: A Look at Foreign Affairs and Energy Policy

September 11, 2014

The FreeState MD Plus

This was right before President Jimmy Carter gave his famous foreign policy and human rights speech at Notre Dame in the spring of 1977. The first United States President to ever at least during the Cold War to make human rights a centerpiece of his foreign policy. A true liberal democratic speech, policy, values that President Carter deserves a lot of credit for. And the best foreign policy if not speech he ever gave as President of the United States.

This was also right before President Carter laid out his national energy policy. Which was a move away from the Nixon and Ford administration’s which both pushed strongly for energy independence for America by focusing on producing a lot of oil, gas and coal in America. What President Carter’s energy policy was about was pushing for expansion of renewable energy sources. Like solar, wind and others and the President had…

British PM implores Scots not to rip UK apart

September 10, 2014

Global News

Prime Minister David Cameron is urging Scottish voters not to break up the British “family” in an independence referendum next week.

Writing in the Daily Mail newspaper, Cameron told Scots: “We desperately want you to stay; we do not want this family of nations to be ripped apart.”

Cameron and the leaders of the Labour and Liberal Democrat parties cancelled a weekly Parliamentary question session to make a late campaign trip to Scotland on Wednesday.

Polls suggest the two sides are neck-and-neck ahead of the Sept. 18 vote, which could end Scotland’s 307-year-old union with England.

Scottish nationalist leader Alex Salmond says visits by the unpopular English politicians could only help the Yes campaign. He said: “If I thought they were coming by bus, I’d send the bus fare.”

Supporters of Nigerian President’s Re-Election Bid Are Using a Terrible Hashtag

September 10, 2014

TIME

In an ill-advised political maneuver, supporters of Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan have begun using the hashtag #BringBackGoodluck2015 to support the incumbent leader’s re-election bid.

The campaign is generating controversy because of its similarity to #BringBackOurGirls, one of the biggest social-media pushes of the year that was launched to demand the return of more than 200 Nigerian schoolgirls abducted in April by terrorist group Boko Haram. The al-Qaeda-affiliated jihadists have threatened to sell the girls as slaves.

What makes the repurposing of the hashtag even more unpalatable is that the victims have still not been rescued, despite a raft of promises by Jonathan’s government. The Nigerian military says it is reluctant to take concrete action lest Boko Haram kills the girls in response, reports the BBC.

Although #BringBackGoodluck2015 may not be officially used or endorsed by the President personally, it has appeared on banners and posters at several campaign events across…
