A CIA Director Speaks the Truth

June 29, 2014

Beyond Highbrow - Robert Lindsay

In the early days of the Reagan Administration, William Colby, head of the CIA and director of the US’ Phoenix Program which tortured and murdered 20,000 Vietnamese civilians on suspicion of Viet Cong links, made a curious statement in a meeting with Reagan Administration officials.

We will know our disinformation program has succeeded when everything the American people believe is false.

William Colby, 1981, Washington DC.

In the early 1960’s, the CIA coined the term “conspiracy theory” and began a mass campaign to convince Americans that all conspiracy theories were lies by crazy people and that actual conspiracies never occurred. After the American people were brainwashed that conspiracies were not possible and all theories about such were the hallucinations of crazy people, the US Deep State was now free to conspire away to their heart’s content.

Around the same time, the CIA started Operation Mockingbird to put hundreds, if not…

Russia Has Much Greater Freedom of the Press Than the US Does

June 29, 2014

Beyond Highbrow - Robert Lindsay

Dr. Cruel wrote:

Of course the Russians reject American free market “greed.” It would interfere with Putin’s greed. And people who disagree with Putin have an unlucky propensity to getting their heads bashed in by Russian thugs – especially if they’re journalists.

The Russian people reject the American neoliberal model. I am not sure personally how much Putin has enriched himself.

There are many, many Putin critics all over Russia. They run many of the nation’s media outlets. Every day they are on TV, the radio, in papers and publications denouncing him in the strongest terms. And here in the US, we have a single corporate media with one and only one voice and message. The US media may as well be Pravda. Freedom of the press is defined by diversity of opinion. Where there is no diversity of opinion, there is no freedom of the press.

‘Bad’ video game behaviour makes gamers more moral in real world, study suggests

Virtual guilt may translate to real world selflessness and pro-social behaviour (Picture: Westend61)

Violent video games like Grand Theft Auto have long courted criticism for ‘promoting’ violent behaviour, but a new study suggests that morally bad behaviour in the virtual world may actually translate to more pro-social behaviour in the real world.

The surprising find came about through a joint study by the University of Buffalo, Michigan State University and the University of Texas, Austin, where researchers induced guilt in gamers by having them violate different moral areas.

They found that violent video-game play increased moral sensitivity in gamers, which typically translates to more selfless behaviour in real-world situations.

‘We found that after a subject played a violent video game, they felt guilt and that guilt was associated with greater sensitivity toward the two particular domains…

Cost of monarchy report published: £300m lost to taxpayer last year

June 29, 2014

UNEMPLOYED IN TYNE & WEAR

Campaign group Republic has published its fully revised report on royal finances, “Worth Every Penny?”, detailing the hidden costs that include Duchy income, costs met by local councils and the sovereign support grant.
The total comes to £299.4m for 2013/14, around 9 times higher than the official figure due to be published on Wednesday.
The report can be downloaded at www.republic.org.uk/wortheverypenny.pdf.
Included in the hidden costs are Lord Lieutenants which set the taxpayer back more than £2m a year – despite most people having never heard of them.
The report also includes lost profits from the Duchy of Cornwall, an estate that should be sending its revenue to the taxpayer rather than Prince Charles.
Local authorities are estimated to have spent over £21m last year on royal visits.
Republic’s chief executive officer, Graham Smith, said :
These figures point to a royal household out…

Last we heard Cara Delevingne was dating Fast And Furious star Michelle Rodriguez, who is 14 years her senior, but she says she couldn’t care less what people think.

‘I’m young, I’m having fun, I don’t want to pretend to be something I’m not…’ said the 21-year-old, adding: ‘People can say what they want, but I’m having a good time.’

And the Burberry model, who is constantly puckering up to her female friends, is happy to admit that she feels more comfortable around women nowadays.

‘The funny thing is, I always used to have more guy friends,’ the model explained. ‘At school, I was a tomboy and it would be me and all my guy friends.

‘But now… I don’t know. It’s kind of changed quite a bit. I still have my old friends from…

June 29, 2014

TechCrunch

The New York based company is encouraging its customers to sign up for updates at ProtectMyAntenna.org, and is ensuring they will be refunded for their last month paid.

Here’s our take on the Aereo ruling.

Adopted kitten’s popping sound sparks online cuteness frenzy

June 29, 2014

Metro

It might seem completely unnatural – but there’s no arguing with the fact it’s pretty cute.

YouTube user Connor Brassington from Berrien Springs, Michigan, posted a short clip of his new adopted kitten sitting on his shoulder, to record its rather bizarre meow.

Actually, forget ‘meow’ – it sounds more like the pop of bubble gum.

Cats have been known to make similar noises when startled or surprised – and the corner of its owner’s glasses may have done that.

Either way, it’s a video of a cute cat – what’s not to like?
