St Matthew-in-the-City would like to acknowledge the hospitality of Pope Benedict XVI. Yesterday it was reported that the Roman Catholic Church will fast- track the reception of Anglican individuals, parishes and dioceses en masse into their fold. It seems they are being invited to share that church’s view that women and openly gay and lesbian individuals should not be ordained and only heterosexual couples should have their unions blessed by God.

Labour have now roped in Oona King, who was once described by Ken as a Blairite “she-devil” to support Ken in a transparently false show of party unity. What Oona really thinks about Ken was revealed before he was selected as the official candidate. She said ‘I don’t think Ken Livingstone is the way to go. He may qualify for Britain’s Got Talent but only on UK Gold’. Not the most ringing endorsement…

Anchor Jennifer Bisram: “There’s another civil rights group in town: the National Socialist Movement.”

Jeff Schoep: “A lot of people in the community, in the white community down there, had been contacting us out of concern for their safety just because of racial tensions.”

Anchor Jennifer Bisram: “Racial tensions after 17-year-old Trayvon Martin was shot and killed by George Zimmerman. Zimmerman is claiming self-defense and has been in hiding now for weeks.”

Jeff Schoep: “We’re a white civil rights organization, and we go into areas where we’re needed and where white citizens need our help.”

Bebo, which has hit one rocky patch after another the past few years, now has new troubles. The social network’s founders and some other shareholders are suing its current owner, alleging fraud.

Original co-founders Michael and Xochi Birch’s MXB Holdings, Ron Conway’s SV Angel investment vehicle, TV executive Michael Jackson and entrepreneur Richard Hecker have filed suit against Criterion Capital Partners (CCP), which took Bebo off AOL’s hands in June 2010, and its CEO Adam Levin.

The quartet, which invested in Criterion’s Bebo six months after it was dumped by AOL, is seeking $5 million in damages. Their filing in San Francisco alleges:

  • Criterion has “exploited” Bebo and has been “fraudulent” by “using its operating capital to pay the salaries of Criterion’s staff”, including $14,000 per month to Levin.
  • Criterion has “withheld” Bebo financial operation details from shareholders.
  • Bebo has “operated for 20 months and has failed…

Yeah you are probably right about the profit motive. Just look at what happened to China’s economy after the capitalist reforms and when they started to allow and encourage entrepreneurship. Businesses, factories, popping up everywhere, making everything, started and run by home grown entrepreneurs.

I just wonder if people would have the same level of motivation to start cooperative businesses, because they wouldn’t get as rich.

What you don’t understand about China is that those factories and businesses are mostly collective enterprises. They are run by labor collectives and small municipalities, but they all compete with each other.

A city with successful enterprises attracts a lot of workers who want to come live there. The city provides many things for the workers that come live there. The cities that do better can give a lot more stuff to the workers.

All such plants are officially owned by the…
